dPatrick Sperry is bringing a new depth to conversations about modern masculinity and personal growth. He is the founder of Flourish. It is a wellness retreat company focused on transformational experiences for men and women. He is guiding men toward emotional healing and spiritual growth through the power of community, yoga, and mindful living.
In his conversation with host Marc Azoulay, Patrick reflects on his own evolution. From a competitive athlete to a teacher of spiritual practice. “I was a national-level soccer player,” he shares. “But when I found yoga, it was like I had finally found that part of myself I had been looking for all along.”
That awakening led Patrick to a lifelong exploration of mindfulness, self-awareness, and what it means to be truly alive. He brings this passion into Flourish Retreats. They blend self-work with adventure, connection, and reflection. His philosophy is simple yet profound: “Men need to be challenged. But they also need to feel safe enough to be vulnerable.”
For Patrick, spiritual growth begins in the body. “We have to get our bodies together,” he explains. “When we’re physically strong and healthy, it creates the chemistry that helps us feel good about being alive.”
Patrick helps men move beyond surface-level achievements. He helps them move into a deeper connection with their inner selves through yoga and meditation. He describes yoga as a doorway — a way to quiet the mind and awaken awareness. “Yoga,” he says, “is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind. When the mind is quiet, you can touch something beyond words.”
His retreats often start with physical practices. They gradually lead men toward stillness, presence, and inner peace. This process forms the foundation of authentic spiritual growth and lasting emotional healing.
Patrick believes that many men are trapped in what he calls “cocoons”. These are layers of conditioning that keep them disconnected from their emotions. “Men have been taught to seek fulfilment outside of themselves. It is through achievement, success, or status,” he explains. “But true fulfilment comes from within.”
His work at Flourish directly challenges traditional male stereotypes. They do so by creating spaces where men can be open, reflective, and compassionate. “When I show up and admit that I’m tired, or that my back hurts, it gives other men permission to be human,” he says.
By integrating mindfulness into daily life, Patrick helps men slow down and embrace imperfection. “Don’t compare yourself to others,” he advises. “Don’t even compete with yourself. Just accept who you are today.”
A cornerstone of Patrick’s philosophy is community. He emphasizes that group therapy and men’s circles are essential for growth. “Every man needs a men’s group,” he insists. “We need places where we can talk about how we feel, where we’re struggling, and what support we need.”
During Flourish retreats, men participate in activities designed to activate different archetypes. The King, Warrior, Magician, and Lover. These experiences are both physical and emotional. One exercise, called “ritual combat,” invites men to embody the Warrior archetype. It does so through focus, discipline, and teamwork. Later, exercises like poetry and storytelling open up the Lover archetype. It encourages vulnerability and connection. “Feedback builds trust,” Patrick explains. “When men give each other honest feedback in a safe space, they grow stronger together.”
This form of mentorship and brotherhood is not only transformative but deeply healing. It allows men to redefine masculinity through cooperation rather than competition. It is a crucial step toward collective spiritual growth.
Patrick’s retreats are often held in natural settings, from the beaches of Mexico to the mountains of Mammoth Lakes. “Nature reminds us who we are,” he says. “When we disconnect from technology and reconnect with the earth, we remember our belonging.”
These nature retreats serve as modern rites of passage. Opportunities for men to face challenge, connect with their essence, and rediscover purpose. “We’re trying to recreate what initiation once was,” Patrick explains. “Men need to prove something to themselves, not to others, but to themselves.”
Patrick Sperry’s work stands as a beacon for men seeking depth in an often superficial world. He is helping men move from isolation to connection and helps them transform self-judgment to self-acceptance. He does so by weaving together yoga, mindfulness, community, and spiritual growth. As Patrick says, “Can you be a conscious parent, a conscious lover, a conscious businessman connected to God? That’s the invitation.”
