Holistic Wellness and the Modern Man w/ Benjamin Vozmediano

May 26, 2025

On this episode of the Men’s Therapy Podcast, holistic wellness coach Benjamin Vozmediano joins us. He shares a deeply personal and eye-opening story of transformation. Benjamin opens up about what it truly means to heal—and how the journey inward is often the most powerful one.

“I had a double life,” Benjamin says. “I was working professionally in wellness, but I was partying hard, numbing myself with alcohol, cocaine, and casual sex.” His honesty pierces through the cultural norm of men suffering in silence. “Depression in men doesn’t always look like sadness. Sometimes it looks like being the life of the party.”

Now in his 40s, Benjamin is living proof of what holistic wellness can look like when it’s embodied. He is building community through Bro Retreats. It is a Sweden-based program designed to help men heal trauma. It helps them reconnect with their bodies and talk openly about the pressures of modern masculinity.

“I finally had to face myself,” he shares, reflecting on the moment he hit rock bottom. That reckoning led him to Peru. Psychedelic therapy for depression helped shift his inner narrative and open new doors to healing. In this conversation, Benjamin and I explore the tools, mindset, and courage it takes for men to rewrite their stories.

Starting with the Basics: Holistic Wellness for Men

“Holistic wellness isn’t just about working out. It’s about sleep, food, connection, movement, and emotional release,” Benjamin explains. He emphasizes four key pillars for building a foundation of health. These include consistent sleep, strength training, walking 10,000–15,000 steps daily, and adequate protein intake.

These simple habits help men reconnect to their physical selves. It is crucial in a world where male burnout and emotional numbness are increasingly common. “Start small,” he advises. “Even just walking daily can shift your entire mental state.”

Benjamin encourages men to take action without overthinking. “Analysis paralysis is killing progress,” he says. “You don’t need a perfect gym plan. Just do ten pushups at home. It’s about priming the pump.”

Facing the Darkness: Depression and the Journey Inward

Benjamin doesn’t shy away from the hard parts. “I had suicidal thoughts. I didn’t think I’d make it out alive,” he recalls. His vulnerability is a call to action for breaking the stigma around depression in men.

He credits psychedelic therapy for depression as a turning point. In Peru, he engaged in guided ayahuasca and San Pedro ceremonies that helped him connect to unresolved trauma. “It wasn’t magic. It didn’t erase my pain. But it helped me see the roots of it,” he says.

This introspective journey helped Benjamin uncover layers of pain tied to parental wounds. It helped him counter toxic masculinity and a lifelong habit of running from emotional discomfort. “Psychedelics gave me the language to meet myself,” he shares. “It was the start of integration.”

Bro Retreats: Real Talk, Real Healing

Out of his healing came Bro Retreats, an immersive experience for men to reconnect with each other and themselves. These small-group retreats combine cold plunge therapy, strength training and silent retreats.

“I wanted to create a space where men could talk about real things. Relationships, father wounds, loneliness—without feeling weak,” he explains. The result is a raw and healing environment. “As soon as we get in the car to drive to the cabin, the guys start opening up. They’re starving for connection.”

Fitness for men is just one part of the equation. The real work happens in the dialogue. “We’re not talking about sports or weather. We’re talking about pain, doubt, and identity,” Benjamin says. These retreats are redefining modern masculinity. They do so by allowing men to express themselves without shame.

The Power of Stillness: Journaling and Silent Retreats

Another cornerstone of Benjamin’s recovery is journaling. “It’s like mental windshield wipers,” he explains. “Even just dumping your thoughts onto paper can create clarity.” He urges men to start journaling daily, using it as a mirror for their inner landscape.

He also speaks highly of his experience at a 10-day silent Vipassana retreat in Sweden. “It was brutal,” he admits. “No talking, no distractions. Just you and your mind but it was also the most powerful thing I’ve ever done.”

Such silent retreats help men confront their emotional numbness. They are especially transformative for those used to staying busy as a distraction from internal pain. “For once, you have to face yourself fully,” he adds.

Conclusion

Benjamin Vozmediano’s story offers a roadmap for men, especially those who are ready to take responsibility for their mental, emotional, and physical health. His life reflects what’s possible when men commit to holistic wellness through daily habits, intentional reflection, and community connection. Benjamin proves that healing isn’t a quick fix—it’s a way of life. As he says, “The biggest wins in life have come through my most difficult moments.”
