Craig Perra is not just talking about recovery; he is living it. He is the founder of The Mindful Habit System and host of the Sex Afflictions & Porn Addictions podcast. Craig is helping men around the world confront one of the most common but least discussed challenges today: porn addiction.
Raised in a Catholic household, Craig grew up with shame around sexuality, compounded by adoption and early exposure to pornography. Despite excelling in sports, academics, and law, his inner struggles spiral into compulsive sex, drug use, and eventually job loss. “I went into work intoxicated. They asked me to leave, and I got fired. That’s when I tried to hurt myself,” Craig shares.
Yet this rock bottom moment becomes the catalyst for transformation. Through addiction therapy, mindfulness practices, and a new approach to sexual health, Craig develops the Mindful Habit System, now used by athletes, executives, and everyday men seeking freedom from compulsive sex and porn recovery.
Porn addiction is no longer a fringe issue. With unlimited access to explicit content online, men across generations are struggling with compulsive use. Craig emphasizes:
“We’re talking about one of the most powerful forces in human nature. When that is being wasted at best, it’s like high fructose corn syrup, at worst, it’s staining your soul and corrupting your arousal imprint.”
Marc Azoulay notes that for millennial men, daily porn use was normalized. But its consequences, such as erectile dysfunction, damaged intimacy, and mental health issues, are now coming to the surface.
Traditional approaches often frame the issue as sex addiction, but Craig sees it differently. “Thirteen years, thousands of clients, 30 countries, not one of them primarily had a sexual issue. It was always the symptom,” he explains.
Instead, his focus is on sexual health and integrity. He challenges men to ask themselves: Is my sexual behaviour honest? Am I doing it in secret? Does this make me feel better about myself? By shifting the lens from suppression to mindful habits, men can begin overcoming porn without falling into shame-based cycles.
Recovery is not just about stopping. It’s about creating new pathways in the brain. Craig highlights the role of brain rewiring through daily practices. He focuses on mindfulness. Sitting for one minute and observing thoughts. Self-care includes eating well, exercising, and sleeping properly.
Some ridiculously attainable goals may help. Craig says, “My goal today is to walk up and down the stairs two extra times.” These simple, mindful habits build momentum. “Sobriety sucks if you don’t replace it with something,” Craig adds. “The cure is the aggressive pursuit of a great life.”
For many men, porn is not just entertainment. It’s a coping strategy for loneliness, stress, and unresolved trauma. But as Craig puts it: “Porn is safe. No conflict, no risk. But it’s also self-harming.” The rise of AI girlfriends and sex tech further complicates male sexuality, creating substitutes for real relationships. Craig warns that there can be no healthy sexuality without a healthy relationship with technology.
What does recovery look like? Craig encourages men to focus on honesty, connection, and purpose. Instead of obsessing over abstinence, the goal is to cultivate sexual health and male sexuality rooted in integrity. “With great power comes great responsibility. Your sexual energy is powerful. Treat it as sacred.”
Porn addiction and compulsive sex are symptoms of deeper issues—disconnection, shame, and unresolved pain. Through mindfulness, brain rewiring, and addiction therapy, men can break free and build lives of integrity and strength. Craig Perra’s story is proof that overcoming porn is possible and that recovery is not just about avoiding the bad, but pursuing the good.
